In-Office CT Scan in Corpus Christi, TX
CT imaging of the paranasal sinuses provides detailed anatomical information about sinus anatomy, the extent of mucosal disease, and surgical planning parameters that cannot be obtained from physical examination alone. Traditionally, ordering a CT scan required a separate radiology referral and scheduling delays of days to weeks. At Corpus Christi ENT Sinus & Allergy, our in-office CT scanner allows Dr. Todd M. Weiss to obtain high-quality sinus imaging on the same day as your consultation enabling faster, more accurate diagnosis and a streamlined treatment experience.
The In-Office CT Scanner
Our practice utilizes a cone-beam CT (CBCT) system specifically designed for sinonasal imaging. The technology delivers high-resolution three-dimensional imaging of the sinuses, nasal passages, and surrounding structures with significantly lower radiation exposure than conventional CT scanners approximately 50 to 90 percent less radiation than a standard hospital CT. The examination takes approximately 30 to 40 seconds and is completely painless and non-invasive.
Benefits of Same-Day In-Office CT Imaging
- Immediate availability: no scheduling delay or separate radiology appointment required
- Same-day diagnosis: Dr. Weiss reviews images during your appointment and discusses findings with you in real time
- More accurate diagnosis: objective anatomical data informs clinical decision-making beyond what physical examination alone can provide
- Streamlined treatment planning: surgical planning, balloon sinuplasty candidacy assessment, and disease staging completed in a single visit
- Reduced radiation: cone-beam CT technology delivers high-quality images at a fraction of the radiation dose of conventional CT
- Cost efficiency: eliminates a separate facility fee and additional imaging center visit
When Is a Sinus CT Scan Ordered?
- Recurrent acute sinusitis to identify predisposing anatomical factors
- Pre-operative surgical planning for FESS, balloon sinuplasty, or septoplasty
- Evaluation of nasal obstruction to assess septal deviation, turbinate anatomy, and sinus patency
- Assessment of allergic fungal sinusitis characteristic CT findings are diagnostic
- Suspected nasal polyps or sinonasal mass
- Failure to respond to medical therapy as expected
- Evaluation of chronic rhinosinusitis to confirm the diagnosis, assess disease extent, and identify drainage pathway anatomy
What the CT Scan Shows
A sinus CT provides detailed imaging of all four paired sinus groups (maxillary, ethmoid, frontal, and sphenoid), the nasal passages, the ostiomeatal complex, the nasal septum, turbinate anatomy, and surrounding orbital and skull base structures. Dr. Weiss uses this information to identify mucosal thickening, sinus opacification, fluid levels, polyps, anatomical variants, and evidence of complications or neoplasm.
Preparing for Your CT Scan
No special preparation is required. The procedure is non-invasive, does not require contrast injection, and does not cause claustrophobia. You may eat, drink, and take all regular medications normally before your appointment. Please inform our staff if you are pregnant prior to the examination.
